Space Facts


1. Astronauts get taller when they’re in space.
2. Uranus was originally named George, in honour of King George III of Britain.
3. Neptune was the first planet in our solar system to be discovered by mathematics.
4. Uranus is the only planet that rotates on its side and Venus is the only planet to spin backwards.
5. The first creature in space was Laika, a little Russian dog.
6. The path of the Moon's orbit around the Earth would fit easily inside the Sun.
7. Although the Apollo astronauts did use a special zero-gravity pen in the late 1960s, it is an urban myth that NASA spent millions of dollars trying to develop a pen that worked in space while the Russians used a pencil.
